OWNERSHIP, WITH CONTEXT

Make every move
an informed one.

01

Check the source

Download desktop software from official channels. Be cautious of unsolicited links, lookalike websites, and messages asking for your recovery phrase.

↗
02

Verify on device

Read transaction details on your hardware wallet screen. Confirm the destination and amount there—not just in the application window.

↗
03

Protect your recovery

Your recovery phrase belongs offline and private. Never type it into a website, share it with support, or store it in a connected document.

PRACTICAL NOTES
6 MIN READ · UPDATED 2026

Ledger Live Desktop brings portfolio visibility and hardware wallet workflows into one place. Getting started is less about moving quickly and more about knowing what each step does.

Begin by obtaining the application from Ledger’s official website. Check the address carefully and avoid download links in unsolicited emails, advertisements, or direct messages. After installation, connect your hardware wallet using the setup instructions shown in the application. Keep the device’s recovery phrase private and offline: legitimate support will never need it.

Once connected, take time to explore the portfolio view. It can help you understand supported accounts and balances, but displayed values may change with market prices and network conditions. Treat portfolio figures as informational, not a guarantee of future value. Before sending an asset, verify the network, destination address, and amount. Then compare the transaction details on your hardware wallet’s own screen before approving.

Good security is a repeatable habit. Keep your operating system and application current, use a trusted private connection, and pause when a prompt feels unexpected. Never approve a transaction you do not recognize. For privacy, remember that public blockchains can expose transaction activity; avoid sharing wallet addresses alongside personal details. Ledger Live Desktop can make self-custody easier to navigate, but you remain responsible for your recovery phrase, approvals, and decisions. Move deliberately, verify independently, and seek official documentation whenever a step is unclear.
